Air Conditioners
When purchasing a replacement air conditioner there is more to choose from than just the brand. There are several features or ratings that you must take into consideration. Each manufacturer offers a wide range of models which are primarily differentiated by cooling capacity, electrical efficiency, noise level, warranty and, of course price. Our office staff will work with you to determine the relative importance of each of these features and help you to select the model which provides you with the optimum in value and performance.

Heat Pumps
Heat pumps keep your home or business warm in the winter and perfectly cool in the summer. In the winter the heat pump captures the heat that is always present in the outside - even in the coldest of weather - and pumps it back indoors. In the summer, it's an air conditioner, pulling the heat out and releasing it outside. Similar to the air conditioner there is a lot more to choose from than just the brand let us help you make deciding much easier and give you the infromation you need to make the choice that is best for you.

Air Cleaners

Electric Furnaces (Air Handlers)
Your central air conditioning system consists of two parts, an outdoor unit and an indoor unit. The air handler is the indoor unit that circulates conditioned air throughout your home. An air handler paired with an air conditioner circulates cool air throughout your house during the summer months. When an air handler is matched with a heat pump, it works all year long, circulating cool air in the summer and warm air in the winter. The air handler consists of a coil, air blower, and a heating package.

Package units

SEER~Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio ranging from 15 to 19 the higher the seer the more efficent the unit and less energy usage.

EER~EER is an abbreviation for Energy Efficiency Rating. The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute standardized this rating, which reports central air conditioning efficiency at 80 degrees F indoors and 95 degrees F outdoors. This rating measures steady-state efficiency -- that is, the efficiency of the air conditioner once it is up and running.

The SEER (Seasonal EER) rating is available for residential central air conditioners, and is generally considered a more reliable indicator of the overall energy efficiency of the unit than the EER.

Phase out of R22 and Introduction of 410A Refrigerant

Manufacturers of air conditioning equipment must phase out the use of HCFC R-22 in new equipment by January 1, 2010. Many manufacturers have already started this process and are building specially designed systems that utilize the new R410-A (R-410A is an azeotropic mixture presently offered under different trade names by various refrigerant manufacturers.)

The newly designed R-410A systems employ thicker walled tubing, newly developed compressors and components, and a higher grade oil that requires diverse installation and service procedures.

What is the difference between R22 and R410A (Freon vs. Puron)

    Freon vs. Puron
The term "refrigerant" means any Class II substance used for heat transfer in a refrigerating system, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Refrigerant is the gas used to heat or cool the air in heat pumps and air conditioners. Without refrigerant, these appliances would operate only as fans.

Most residential air conditioners and heat pumps rely on hydrochloroflurocarbons, or HCFCs, for this purpose. The one most often used is called HCFC-22, or R-22, known as Freon®.

About 10 years ago, the federal Clean Air Act was amended to begin a mandatory phase out of the production and use of many ozone-depleting substances, including R-22 and R-12, which is found in vehicle air conditioning. Products using R-22 will be phased out by Jan. 1, 2010, and a total ban on production and importation becomes effective in 2020.

Puron® is a brand name for a refrigerant called R-410A. Several air conditioning and heat pump manufacturers are starting to use Puron in their products because it's reported to be nonflammable, generally viewed as nontoxic, and has less impact on atmospheric ozone.
